Kattang Nature Reserve is a hidden gem of the Camden Haven region and just 10 minutes from North Haven Holiday Village. Set on the Camden Head Peninsula near Dunbogan, this reserve offers some of the most breathtaking coastal walks and whale-watching spots on the Mid North Coast.
Spectacular Walks and Lookouts
The reserve’s highlight is the Perpendicular Point Walking Track, a 2.6km return walk that leads through coastal heath and forest to the headland’s edge. Here, the views are nothing short of spectacular — you’ll gaze across the Pacific Ocean, with the Laurieton River and North Brother Mountain in the distance.
Other shorter trails, like the Flower Bowl Circuit and Mercury Walking Track, showcase seasonal wildflowers, birdlife, and peaceful forest surrounds — perfect for a quiet stroll immersed in nature.
Whale Watching and Wildlife
From May to November, Kattang is one of the best vantage points for spotting humpback whales as they migrate along the coast. Bring binoculars — you may also see dolphins playing in the surf or sea eagles gliding on the breeze. Keep an eye out for goannas, echidnas, and the colourful wildflowers that blanket the reserve in spring.
